Houdini Snow Reveal Information
Master Houdini snow FX by creating a magical reveal using Vellum Grains. Create magical spirits by advecting particles with pyro simulations.
Creating snow with Houdini Vellum is relatively straightforward, but problems can arise when working with collision geometry. In this course, we’ll cover not only how to set up an efficient grains simulation, but also how to solve common challenges that come up in Vellum simulations.
The second part of the course will focus on creating magical spirits using particles, as well as a detailed look at Nuke compositing and look development.
What You’ll Learn In Houdini Snow Reveal?
Control Vellum Grains
In this course we’re going to use vellum grains to create realistic snow behavior. We’ll talk about best ways to handle collisions and how to art direct the grains to get a specific look.
Snow Dust
Then we’re going to create a snowy dust layer on top of the grains. This dust layer will react to our grains depending on various attributes and other sources we define.
Magical Spirits
We’re also going to create elemental spirits and use them to create colorful particle trails. We’ll set up multiple render layers with different AOVs, and render everything in redshift.
Nuke Compositing
In nuke we’re going to layer all our renders so we have complete control over each element. Here I’ll show you a lot of techniques to improve the final render, and how to leverage all AOV passes.
